Free to the World

World Photography Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre which happened in the beginning of 1839.

On August 19, of that same year, the French government announced the invention of the daguerreotype process as a gift “Free to the World”. So, 1839 is marked as the year that photography was invented.
